Meet the Owner

Mark Dewit

Franchise Owner

Mark Dewit is a lifelong Calgary resident and currently lives in the city’s southwest. After graduating in 2004 from Bishop Carroll High School, Mark earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Risk Management and Finance from the University of Calgary in 2010. He was a two-sport university athlete balancing his studies with athletic pursuits with the Dinos wrestling and football teams. In 2008, he won the Calgary Booster Club Scholar Athlete Award and the Canadian University Wrestling Championships and, in the same year, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts. Mark went on to play five seasons in the Canadian Football League, including two years with the Argonauts, two years with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and one year with his hometown team, the Calgary Stampeders. Following his retirement from professional football, Mark put his degree to use and spent over a decade working in the oil and gas industry taking on roles in Human Resources and Occupational Health and Safety.

As the owner of Scholars Calgary West, Mark’s goal is to help children fulfill their potential both in the classroom and in life. Mark believes that learning should be fun and strives to ensure that children who attend Scholars have a positive experience. While at the centre, you are likely to find Mark talking to students about everything from schoolwork to extra-curricular activities and maybe even having a “name that tune” contest between classes.

In his spare time, Mark enjoys playing board games, watching Jeopardy, playing recreational sports, visiting with friends and family, and spending time with his wife Courtney, three-year-old son William, and his two cats, Ripley and Tico.
